Roger McGuinn

"Take some outstanding old folk songs and add an extremely talented crew of folk artists and you end up with a phenomenal album called “Treasures from the Folk Den”. How can you go wrong with musicians the caliber of Roger McGuinn, Josh White, Eliza Carthy, Joan Baez, Pete Seeger, Judy Collins, Odetta, Tommy Makem, and Frank & Mary Hamiliton? This album is a beautiful collection that show how the early 60’s folk artists like Dylan had a deep, deep well of material and style to choose from. If you like early Dylan and The Byrds, I think you’ll love this album of their roots. Most of the numbers are traditional (“Wagoner’s Load”, “Alabama Bound”, “Willie Moore”, “John Riley” for example. Others, like “Cane Blues” and John the Revelator” have McGuinn rewriting traditional source material. The 12 string is there and lovely arrangements make this a piece of art." -- Folkrockman
