1. RE: Great Review!
Oct 23 2008, 3:40 AM EDT
shot of love was, is, always will be one of my very favourite dylan albums. i have never understood a single critical notice. the production (not a million miles away from his current sound) is much better than the slick jobs on the albums around it, late 70s to mid 80s. The range of material and its glimmering hard edged weary atmosphere is unique. The cover? ok, the front is naff - but that photo on the back is an iconic image as resonant as the rest of the album, it's Bob - Last Tango in Paris Texas!i have snuck tracks from SOL among those of his recent work for friends - and they've all been singled out as quality. this is one of the very, very few albums that made me write something creatve in response - it CALLS for a response, i'm not surprised the short dull obvious reviews at the time hurt Dylan a lot. i have live albums from the tour of the time and they are great listening too. i would take this masterpiece over Infidels or whatever any day! Do you find this valuable? |
